Chess tournament registration

Players register in their section with a rating, and sections stop at the boards you have.

What's inside

Each section shows the boards left and turns Full at 40, and scholastic players give their school and grade.

From registrations to round 1 pairings

Export the replies the night before and import names and ratings into your pairing program. The rating field takes FIDE, national or online ratings, so note which one in your pairing rules.

Requested byes go into the pairings before round 1. A player who asks for a round 3 bye is not paired in round 3, and nobody waits at an empty board.

Forty boards per section is 120 players. Change the places on each section to the sets and clocks you have.

Chess registration questions

Can unrated players register?

Yes. The rating question is optional. Unrated players usually go into the Under 1600 or Scholastic section, which you can say in the intro. Most pairing programs treat a blank rating as zero and pair those players at the bottom for round 1. If an unrated adult picks Open, that is fine, but expect a few lopsided first-round games.

Can I collect entry fees?

Fillio takes no payments. Put the fee in the intro and collect it at check-in, or send a payment link with your confirmation email. Many opens charge less for early entries, so name the cutoff date in the intro too. Add a paid column to your export and tick players off at the desk, so you know who still owes before pairings go up at 8:45.

Can a chess club use it for weekly games?

Yes. Keep one section and delete the byes question. Duplicate the form each week so each night has its own list. Set that section's places to two players per board, so 12 boards stop at 24 players and the option shows Full. Lower the closing limit to the same number, or remove it, since the section cap already does the job.
