A book launch readers remember
Open RSVPs three weeks before launch day and share the link in your newsletter, on social and through your publisher and bookshop.
Favorite lines from early readers give you the reading. Pick two or three and say who chose them; readers love hearing their pick on screen.
Questions sent ahead make a better conversation. Group them into two or three themes and send them to your host the day before.
Pick the draw winners live from the replies that chose to enter. It keeps people watching until the end, which is when you mention where to buy the book.
Book launch RSVP questions
How do I pick draw winners fairly?
Export the replies, keep the ones that chose to enter, and pick at random on screen, for example by numbering them and using a random number generator. Check your local rules for giveaways. Draw all five numbers in one go and read them out together. Save the numbered list, so you can redraw from it if a winner never replies.
Do I need the readers' addresses for the signed copies?
Only from winners. Email the five winners after the launch and ask for a mailing address then, so you don't collect hundreds you won't use. Give winners a week to reply, then redraw for any copy left unclaimed. Ask how they want the book signed in the same email, since their name in the dedication makes the prize personal.
Can a bookshop use it for an in-store launch?
Yes. Change the intro to the shop's address and time. The favorite line and question still work, and the email confirms who to expect. A small shop may fit only 40 chairs, so count the replies a few days out and close the form once you reach that number. Keep the draw, or rename it to a discount on the night.
