Tiebreaker: how long will the show run, in minutes?

Running the ballot on the night

Replace the nominees once they are announced, usually about six weeks before the show. Add the categories your crowd cares about; four to eight keeps the ballot fun.

Close the ballot when the red carpet ends. Export the replies, then mark one point per correct pick as each envelope opens.

The tiebreaker settles ties without arguments: the closest guess to the real running time wins. An upset that comes true is worth a bonus point if you say so in the intro.

Awards ballot questions

Does the form score the ballots?

No. You mark them live from the export, which is half the fun. Read the leader out after each big category. Open the export on a laptop by the TV and add a points column next to each name. Sorting by points after each category keeps the leaderboard ready, and best picture, which comes last, usually decides it.

Can I use it for the Grammys or the Emmys?

Yes. Rename the categories and the nominees. The tiebreaker works for any show with a running time. For the Grammys, use album, record and song of the year plus best new artist. For the Emmys, split drama and comedy. The running time question accepts 120 to 300 minutes, so lower the minimum in the editor for a shorter show.

Can guests change their picks?

Each ballot is final once sent. A guest who changes their mind can send a new ballot; count only the latest one from each name. The export shows the time each ballot was sent, so the latest one is easy to find. Delete the older ballot from your responses before you start marking, so each guest counts once.
