Dinner party RSVP

Know who is coming, what they don't eat and who brings a guest before you plan the menu.

What's inside

Guests who come tick what they don't eat and say whether they bring someone, who then gets a name and restrictions of their own. Everyone who comes picks red, white or no wine.

Planning the menu around the table

Send the link two weeks before a seated dinner. That is enough time to answer and leaves you a week to plan the menu and shop once the replies are in.

The restriction question uses ticks, not a text box, so a vegetarian and a nut allergy can't get lost in a sentence. Anything unusual goes in the other field at the end of the list.

A plus-one gets the same care. Their name and restrictions arrive in the guest's reply, so place cards and plates are right for the whole table.

The wine question tells you how many bottles of each to buy, and who would like something without alcohol. For a bigger crowd where everyone cooks, use the holiday potluck RSVP.

Dinner party RSVP questions

Can guests add a restriction that isn't listed?

Yes. The restriction question has an other option where guests type their own, like shellfish or nightshades. It arrives in the same column as the ticked ones. If an answer is vague, like low dairy, message that guest a week out and ask what it means for a cheese course or a cream sauce. A two-line chat now saves a plate later.

How many guests can bring a plus-one?

Each reply can add one guest. If plus-ones are only for some people, duplicate the form and send the copy without the question to everyone else. A plus-one turns a table for eight into nine, so count the yeses and plus-ones against your chairs. Close the form once every seat is taken, and nobody replies to a full table.

Can I swap the wine question for something else?

Yes. Replace it with a question about coffee, dessert or a cocktail in your copy. It shows only to guests who are coming. Keep three options with a none answer at the end, the way the wine question works now, so guests who skip it still have something to pick. Ask about something you'd actually change, since the answers should shape your shopping.
