Hosting Galentine's

Send the link two weeks before February 13. A weekend brunch is easiest for everyone, so pick the closest Saturday or Sunday.

Read the compliments out over coffee without saying who wrote them. It takes ten minutes and everyone goes home feeling seen.

Build the playlist from the song answers before the day. Play it in order of replies, and people will hear their pick come up.

The card swap count tells you how many cards each person brings: one for every other swapper. Put the number in your reminder message.

Galentine's RSVP questions

Are the compliments really anonymous?

Guests write their name at the top of the form, so you can see who wrote what. Keep that to yourself and read the compliments without names. Read them out yourself, or hand the printed list to one friend who reads each one in the same voice. Skip any that could hurt or that point to one person too clearly, since the round only works when everyone feels safe.

What if a friend can't come?

They can still leave a compliment and a song, and their goodbye message says both will be part of the day. Nobody is left out of the reading. Send the link to friends in other cities too. Their compliments arrive with everyone else's, so the person who hears one can't tell if it came from across the table or across the country.

Can I use it for a Valentine's party?

Yes. Change the title and intro, and turn the card swap into a gift swap or delete it. The compliment round works for any group of friends. For a couples party, change the compliment question to one about how they met, then read the answers out and let the room guess the couple. Keep the song question, since a shared playlist fills the room at any party.
