Diwali party RSVP

Families reply, bring sweets and enter the rangoli contest as a team.

What's inside

Families who come give a headcount, say which sweets they bring and can enter the rangoli contest, which asks for a team name. Families who can't come get Diwali wishes.

Hosting a Diwali night

Diwali moves each year with the lunar calendar, usually in October or November. Send the link three weeks before, when families start planning visits.

The sweets answers stop the table from filling with six boxes of the same ladoo. Share the list in your family group, and people pick what's missing.

Rangoli teams need space and powder. Count the teams, mark a square on the floor or path for each and set out colors before guests arrive.

Change the activities to your family's: puja timing, a card game evening or sparklers. The headcount and the team logic stay the same.

Diwali party RSVP questions

Can I use it for Deepavali or Tihar?

Yes. Change the title and greeting to the name your community uses, whether that's Deepavali, Tihar or Bandi Chhor Divas, and the activities to match. For Tihar, you might swap the rangoli contest for a deusi bhailo round and change the sweets example to sel roti. Edit the goodbye message too, since families who can't come read it as your greeting.

How does the rangoli team name work?

Families who enter the contest are asked for a team name. Use the names to mark each square and to announce the winners. Families who pick the judging option skip the team question, so you also learn how many judges you have. Aim for an odd number, three or five, so a tie is settled without a long debate over the sweets.

Can guests see who else is coming?

No. Replies go only to you. Share a list in your family group if you want everyone to see it. A short list of sweets already promised works best, so the next family brings something different. Each reply shows the family size next to the name, so you can add up chairs and plates before you shop.
